Chores, Schmores!

Guess, what. There are six humans and a dog living in this house creating messes left and right. I do not have to carry the load alone, and neither should you! Get a list as soon as possible. It will be a living and breathing document ever changing like the example I have for you. But just do it. It won’t look the same for everyone, but I separated mine into three categories split between the three oldest kids and changes from month to month. The little one just has to feed and water the dog every morning and evening.

  1. Kitchen - The kitchen in our house is the biggest chore. So whomever is on kitchen gets light duty with the yard and the bathrooms. Kitchens include doing dishes, wiping down the counters every day and deep cleaning appliances once a month. The light duty on bathrooms is vanities and mirrors, and the light duty on yard work is doing the blowing.

  2. Floors - The floors are to be vacuumed and “dusted” daily with a swiffer or whatever. Once a week, whomever is on floors will deep clean the hard surface floors, and if there are stains on the carpet, clean with the wet carpet cleaner. For bathrooms, this person will do tubs and showers, and for yard work will do weed whacking.

  3. Declutter - Declutter is the lightest of all chores. They are to dust and declutter. My teenagers don’t know what clutter is so we have to constantly stay on them about this. But while this person has the lightest duty as far as daily chores go, they have the hardest duties for bathrooms and yard work. This person will clean the toilets and mow.

Does it look perfect? No. But my kids are learning, and I am proud of them. Sometimes.
